International Disaster Emergency Services is the only famine-disaster-emergency
relief mission of the Christian Churches and Churches of Christ. IDES was
founded for the purpose of providing a mission through which members of the
Christian Churches and Churches of Christ can help disaster victims physically
and spiritually. To help them physically IDES0 provides food, clothing and
medicines (with medical supervision). To provide for them spiritually, New
Testaments in the appropriate language are given, along with assurance that
Christians really care about their conditions. IDES coordinates this work
through the existing missionaries and Christians in the area affected, taking
care to respect the autonomy of each congregation involved. In areas where
there are no Christians or missionaries, IDES provides the necessary
personnel to minister to the needs. Aid is also given to the many who are
persecuted because of their Christianity.
The goal of IDES is to " give people
the help they need to get them through a crisis so they can take care of their
own needs in the future." Recently IDES has helped several missions that
Farragut Christian Church supports. Help continues to be given to T. Lunkim (Kuki Christian
Church) in India, Central Africa Mission (Ivan Martin) in Zimbabwe and George Awwad
(Christian Holyland Foundation).
In the U.S aid has been sent to many churches and communities to help with recovery
from fires, hurricanes, floods and tornadoes.
