Christian Church Foundation for the Handicapped

Headquarters - Knoxville, Tennessee

The Christian Church Foundation for the Handicapped exists to assist in meeting the needs of persons with mental and physical limitations. The Foundation was chartered in September 1983 as a non-profit, charitable organization under Kentucky state law. While the Foundation's major goal is to establish homelike residential facilities, a secondary purpose is to serve as a resource agency. The first facility and the Foundation Headquarters were located on the Tennessee River in Louisville, Tennessee, and has been named Riverwood Community. The Foundation Headquarters moved from Riverwood to Knoxville in l992 to make room for a second residential unit. The new unit was named Riverwood II. Another facility, Green River Christian Community, was established in Kentucky.

CCFH recently introduced two new programs in residential care. The first is an Independent Living Program and now has 4 residents. Each resident has an apartment with 1-2 roommates and maintains a job within the community. Recreational activities are planned by the residents and supervised by the staff. Weekly church attendance and daily devotions are offered. Each resident is responsible for the care of his/her apartment, personal belongings and household chores. The second is a Respite Care Program providing temporary care for a family who has a member with a disability. CCFH will provide respite care for up to 2 weeks, allowing the recipient to live in a group home setting while his/her family or primary caregiver has the opportunity to relax.

Jim Pierson is the Foundation's Chief Executive Officer. He teaches a course in disabliity ministry at Johnson Bible College. He also serves as a lecturer at Milligan College and is a consultant for Standard Publishing.
